Track Hardwired Appliances or Add a Solar Sensor

You can add extra Sensors to an existing Powersensor kit to unlock these additional features:

Track the electricity usage of hardwired appliances like air conditioners, pool pumps, ovens, and electric hot water systems*, or
Upgrade an existing basic energy monitoring kit into an advanced solar kit.

In addition to the main household and solar sensors, Powersensor supports the monitoring of up to nine individual appliances. Appliance tracking is possible for any plug-in appliance with the Powersensor Plug or any hardwired appliance with an accessible conduit using the Sensor (this item).

*Electric hot water systems metered via a separate meter and tariff are not currently supported.

Powersensor Extra Sensor is a game changer

I have attached the extra sensor to the solar input system which has transformed the detail output on the mobile app. It now shows the power usage at our home along with the power sold to the grid all in real time. One can immediately see the impact of air conditioning, dishwasher, stove, microwave etc. Surprisingly, the air conditioners, once the room has reached selected temperature, use far less power than one would imagine.
Overall a worthwhile investment.

New sensor on a HWC works well in addition to existing sensors on solar and total home.

Chest freezer monitor

It took longer to learn than I expected but is now reporting ok
It has showed me that an old full chest freezer with new lid rubber uses 60% more tpower than a large fridge freezer used as a drink fridge next to it.
This was a surprise and it showed the freezer motor never switching off.
It’s using aprox 3.5kwh per day and the fridge is using 1.5kwh

Easy to use

I must admit I held off buying an extra sensor because I thought it would be hard to set up. It wasn't! After topping up the battery, maybe a minute.

Excellent Fine grain data

The second sensor to monitor our new solar system works brilliantly. It was easy to fit and is now providing really useful data.
