B22 light bulbs are those with a standard-sized Bayonet Cap base. B22 light globes are sometimes referred to as 'BC' globes - short for Bayonet Cap. The '22' in B22 or B22d describes the width of the bulb's base - which is 22mm. All of the B22 bulbs we sell are energy-efficient LED lamps.
How does a Bayonet connector work?
A bayonet connector includes a light bulb base with radial pins and a light socket with matching L-shaped slots and springs to keep the two parts locked together.
Are BC, B22, B22d & B22d-2 all the same thing?
Yes - the most technically correct description is B22d-2, which designates the use of a bayonet-style connector using 2 pins. However, BC and B22 have become short-hand for this widely used globe.
Much like the E27 light bulb, the B22 lamp has a long history:
"First developed by St. George Lane Fox-Pitt in the UK and improved upon by the Brush Electric Company from the late 1870s onward, standard bulbs have two pins on opposite sides of the cap." - Wikipedia.
