Features of the FLIR ONE Thermal Imaging Camera

How to use the FLIR ONE (video transcript)

One of the things that makes the FLIR ONE camera unique is its MSX technology. MSX gives your images more detail in context than you would get from the thermal image. Keep in mind MSX requires light to work and you should be at least one metre away from the object you're looking at for optimal alignment.

FLIR ONE OptionsAt the bottom of the screen you'll find the ability to snap an image. Or if you like, slide the switch to the video setting and start capturing video. Tap on the icon in the upper left for further settings and functions, such as turning on your camera's flash light to increase MSX functionality in low-light situations. To turn your spot meter on or off tap the target icon located at the top of your screen.

If the alignment is off you can manually recalibrate by pressing and holding your finger on the live image. Once the bar appears use the slider until the images are properly aligned.

FLIR ONE Colour PalettesWhether you're taking a still image or video you can select from many different colour palettes at any time by simply swiping the screen left or right. For scenes with low heat contrast like a wall with missing insulation or a leaky roof, the lava palette helps by using colours to show varying temperatures. The hot and cold palette simply intensifies the hottest and coldest places in a scene, and calculates the total temperature contrast in a scene, and colours the hottest parts in red and the coldest parts in blue. Now let's say you have a high-contrast scene - the iron palette uses select colours to show the rich varied temperatures of the scene without overwhelming your eye with too much colour.

After you've captured an image or video you can retrieve it from your FLIR ONE by clicking the thermal photo located in the bottom left corner of your screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the latest "2nd Generation" model FLIR ONE?

What is the distance / range of the FLIR ONE?

Generally up to about 40 metres.

Will the FLIR ONE drain my phone battery?

No. The attachment includes an internal battery.

Will it fit in my pocket?

Yes. See the dimensions and weight in the specifications table above.

Can I see through things like walls or clothes with the FLIR ONE?

No, thermal vision is not x-ray vision.

However, it allows you to visualise and measure the surface temperature of most objects. In many cases, the surface temperature of an object can be affected by things behind or under the surface.

For example, under certain conditions the surface temperature of a wall can be subtly affected by the wooden studs behind it. This characteristic can allow you to easily see the location of the studs behind the wall, without actually looking through the wall.

How do I get a higher temperature range, more resolution, or longer battery life?

If you require better specifications, we'd encourage you to check out one of our higher-end thermal imaging cameras.

Is there a Windows Phone version of the FLIR ONE?

No, but bear in mind if you have any iOS or Android device (including tablets) that will most likely do the job.

What other thermal imaging cameras do you sell?

We are authorised distributors for the full range of handheld thermal imaging cameras from FLIR. The FLIR One is the latest, most cost-effective device in the range. Click here to view our full range of thermal cameras.
