Chamaeleon Deco - an ideal lighting solution for low occupancy spaces.
Huge Energy Savings for 'Always On' Lighting
The Chamaeleon Deco delivers much higher energy savings than other similar looking light fittings. Whereas other lights remain on all day, the Deco has 3 modes: full brightness (21W), reduced brightness (9W), or off after no motion detected (0W). Apart from the motion sensor it also has an integrated daylight sensor so the light can remain off when natural light is available.
The Chamaeleon Deco Arctic White model is ideal for all areas in buildings where lights are otherwise left on continuously. The product has been used in residential strata buildings, hotels, hospitals, commercial offices, and many other applications.
Mounting, Microwave Sensor, & Timer Options
The Chamaeleon Deco can be wall or ceiling mounted and has a range of energy saving options.
Suggested installation height
|Maximum suggested spacing||Every 5m||Every 6m|
Sensitivity Settings - The standard detection range (above) can be reduced to 75%, 50%, 25% or 10%. This is handy if you need to 'tune' the microwave occupancy sensor to not switch on too readily in certain environments.
Time Delay Settings - The time that the light remains on at full brightness after movement has ceased can be varied between 5s, 30s, 1m, 5m, 15m or 30 minutes. We recommend 1m for corridors and 5m for lobbies.
Daylight Sensor Adjustment - The integrated PE (photoelectric) cell can be used to make sure the light only turns on at certain ambient light levels. Options are 2 lux (dark), 5 lux, 10 lux (twilight), 30 lux, 50 lux, or photocell disabled (default setting). Note: this setting can only be used if the standby is set to 0% (see below).
The above 3 settings can be easily adjusted with a series of 'DIP switches' on the light fitting. See page 2 of instruction manual below for precise details.
Standby Brightness Mode - The amount of light emitted can either be 20% or 0% when no movement detected. In most instances we recommend the 0% setting for maximum energy savings. See page 4 of installation guide (below) for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended light spacing in a corridor?
If you are replacing existing oyster light fittings you can usually just replace every light fitting (ie. one for one replacement). In some corridors, where the existing lights are quite close together, you can get away with replacing every second light fitting. In either case the maximum recommend spacing between light fittings is approximately 5 to 6 metres for normal ceiling heights.
Can I install the light where it will be exposed to direct sunlight?
It is not recommended, as the polycarbonate cover is not UV stabilised. We recommend the other Chamaeleon Deco model in these instances (which is UV stabilised).
How much will I save by installing this light fitting?
Energy and cost savings can be very substantial, but will depend on a wide range of factors. Taking the example of many apartment buildings with corridor lighting on 24/7 we have the following potential scenarios:
|Light Fitting||Average Load (Watts)||Annual Operating Cost|
|Existing Oyster Light with T5 Circular Fluorescent Tube||32||$70|
|Existing Oyster Light with 2x18W PL CFL Bulbs||45||$99|
|NEW Chamaeleon Deco 21W LED (off in standby)||4||$9|
The above example shows how you can often achieve energy savings up to 90% in some buildings. This gives a simple payback period of around 3 years once installation costs have been added.
Don't forget these light fittings also facilitate maintenance cost savings as well, which are not included above. More importantly, they usually produce a better and brighter quality of light than existing lights. In fact, we often find it is this final point of better lighting (not just the energy savings) which really wins over our customers.
